Nourish Your Hair from the Inside Out:

Over the past few weeks we dove deep into the Color Series, but now it is time to talk about nourishing and conditioning your hair to keep your color looking amazing! The need of summer is near, and your hair might be a bit beat from the sunshine and saltwater/cholorine, so it is definitely time to nourish your hair from the inside out. Healthy hair comes from within, so we are going to show you exactly what you can do to get healthy hair from the inside out. Our favorite gal Gwyneth Paltrow is the perfect example of healthy, glowing hair (+skin!), so let’s jump right in.
Drinking water is definitely the number one element in having healthy hair from within. Not only will it hydrate your hair and skin, but it will also make your hair softer and easier to style. If you are hydrated, your hair will definitely reward you by looking shiny and gorgeous.
There are also certain foods that contribute greatly to your hair’s health. These include kale, blueberries, sweet potatoes, and almonds.
Kale helps with hair elasticity, making it stronger and less prone to breakage. It also helps stimulate blood circulation to your hair, which promotes hair growth.

Blueberries are super rich in vitamin C, which means that they help your scalp produce its natural oils, in turn acting like a natural conditioner.
Sweet potatoes contain tons of vitamin A which helps with dry, brittle hair. The omega-3s promote growth and nourish the hair follicles.
Almonds have lots of Vitamin D and Magnesium, which will decrease hair fall out. Who wouldn’t want less hair fall out?! That sounds amazing.
If you still feel like you need a healthy hair boost give vitamins a try. The vitamin complex MSM, which can be found at any health food store, is a hair, skin, and nails vitamin that works wonders. Using Gwyneth Paltrow for inspiration, and following her example if healthy eating for glowing hair and skin will leave you shining from the inside out. Healthy hair is beautiful hair.

COLOR SERIES: Deep Conditioning Treatments ( Jennifer Anniston + Kourtney Kardashian)

Taking care of your hair is the key to having healthy, gorgeous looking color. Incorporating certain products into your beauty routine will certainly turn up the volume on your hair and make you look hot for the rest of the summer. A few of our favorite celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Kourtney Kardashian ( as well as the rest of the Kardashian and Jenner gals) have a few favorite products that they swear by, and we cannot wait to share them with you. These girls always look flawless from head to toe, but their hair is always something that stands out the most. Their hair looks shiny and healthy, and that can truly only come from within.

Jennifer Aniston + Living Proof

You may have seen Jennifer in recent advertisements for Living Proof haircare. It turns out that she truly believes in the products and recommends them to all of her friends. Her go-to product from the line is called Night Cap. It is a deep conditioning, overnight hair-mask treatment that was created by MIT scientists. No wonder it works. Jennifer says she wakes up with her hair feeling healthy and refreshed. Want to give Living Proof products a try? You can find them at Sephora, and we would love to hear your thoughts.

Kourtney Kardashian (+ the Kardashian/Jenner gals)

One of Kourtney’s favorite products is the Joico K-Pak Reconstructing treatment. She uses this intense hair mask once a week when her tresses start looking a bit dull. She claims the best part is the smell. We can’t wait to give this one a try. Another one of Kourtney’s hair care favorites is the Fekkai Glossing Creme. This product adds shine and a healthy glow to your hair, without weighing it down. What more could you ask for?
Kim Kardashian claims to love Olaplex for a really deep condition. She says that when her hair is feeling dry or damaged, she will sleep in the Olaplaex treatment and her hair feels so much better and healthier in the morning. The Kardashain/Jenner clan have also been known to use good ole’ coconut oil on their hair too.

COLOR SERIES: Colors of the Rainbow (Nicole Richie, Demi Lovato, Hilary Duff)

Crazy Colors are always showing up all over the celebrity world. Dying your hair an unnatural color can be a fun way to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Celebrities like Demi Lovato and Nicole Richie are known for being out there and bold with their looks, so crazy colors suit their personality very well, but celebrities like Hilary Duff, who are a bit more quiet, use the color change as an opportunity to be bold. Now, whether you want to try this look out for a week or a few months, we have a solution for you.

Pink: Hilary Duff

A few years ago Hilary Duff debuted her adorable, light pink hair. Her look was subtle and in a bit of an ombre style, and we think it was absolutely perfect for her. The color did not last too long, and seemed to just fade back into her blonde locks, making for a great, temporary look. If you are looking for a way to simply test out a color and see if you like having it full-time, then this is a great route to go. Of course if your hair is already blonde, that would work best because it would not require too much lightening of your hair to make the color appear. A temporary, wash out color is a great first step.

Purple: Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie is known for being wild and out there, so it was no surprise when she decided to dye her entire head of hair lavender. The color completely suited her, and matched her big personality. Now, because Nicole’s hair was a blonde shade to begin with, she most likely just had to lighten her hair a bit to get the lavender color to look bright and even. Her lavender phase seemed to laugh for quite a while, so her color choice was most likely a permanent dye. This is a bit of a commitment, so make sure you absolutely love the color before taking the plunge. Be sure to keep your hair extremely moisturized and use a color safe hair care line to keep your color looking fresh.

Blue: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato’s look always matched her big voice, and we love it. She is not one to be afraid of color, and she definitely expresses herself with her hair. Because Demi’s natural hair is a dark brown, she had to bleach the parts of her hair where she wanted the blue color in order for it to show up, making this a two part dying situation. Demi’s blue of choice is a bright turquoise color, which means she most likely needs to dye her hair frequently to keep the color looking fresh. This is the perfect look for a bold gal looking to spice things up with her hair.

COLOR SERIES: Light Brown (Jennifer Aniston + Jessica Alba)

Light brown, whether it be ashy or golden, is a great color to have if you want a very natural look that can easily be lightened of darkened. Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba are perfect models of light brown hair, and we know exactly how to get you the same look.

Ash Light Brown

Ashy, light brown is really on the cooler side of the spectrum when it comes to color. Just like Jessica Alba, ashy light brown looks really beautiful when it is done in a solid color all over the hair. When taken care of correctly, you hair will look healthy, glossy, and shiny. If you had blonde hair as a child, the chances are that your natural hair color is now a light, ash blonde at your roots. Maybe give that color a try and embrace it.
Caring for ashy, light brown hair is actually very easy because brown hair dye does not usually contain as many drying chemicals as blonde hair dye, your hair will appear healthier and very shiny. As we always say, giving your hair a deep condition with coconut oil once a week is still a great idea- especially with the warm summer months upon us.

Golden Light Brown

Golden, light brown is on the warmer side of the color spectrum, and celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston have this style down. The key to Jennifer’s perfect locks is to add some warm, face-framing highlights to the hair to brighten up the look. This creates a warm, sunny look with a very natural glow to the hair. Achieving this look is super easy. Ask your stylist for a light brown, all-over color with some face-framing highlights to brighten it up. This is the perfect summer look for those with light brown hair.
Because there is a bit of blonde in the mix, be sure to tone your hair once a week to keep your hair from getting brassy or too yellow. Follow up with a conditioning treatment of your choice, and your hair will be looking super hot and ready for summer.

COLOR SERIES: Ombré + Balayage (Jessica Biel + Lauren Conrad)

Celebrities have been rocking the ombré and Balayage trend for years now, and we can definitely see why. This beachy, “cool-girl” look is probably one of the most low maintenance hair colors you can go for. Don’t like touching up your roots? No problem! Let them be free and just touch them up occasionally. In our opinion, this is a hairstyle that will be around for years to come. So give it a try and rock it just like our girls Jessica Biel and Lauren Conrad.

Who Can Rock This Look?

Literally, anybody can pull off the ombré and Balayage hair color! This is a hair color that is specialized to your special tone and shade. Usually your hairstylist will simply take you a few shades lighter with the ombré and Balayage to keep you looking fairly natural and sun-kissed. If your stylist is experienced, you will end up with a perfectly blended mane that is ready for summer. However, knowing the difference between the two color trends is definitely important when you go to your hair appointment.

What’s the Difference Between Ombré and Balayage?

While the two color trends do look very similar, they are actually slightly different, and very important to know so that you get the exact look you want when you hit the salon. Ombre is a gradual fade from the top of your hair to the bottom, with the lightest shade being on the very ends of your hair. A good stylist will be able to give you a really blended, seamless look, but less experienced stylists can create harsh color lines in your hair. Balayage is very similar to ombré, but is a bit more of a blended, natural look. With this look you are going to look sun-kissed, with hand painted pieces of your hair being dyed lighter. This creates a more graduated, natural look.

Caring for your Ombré and Balayage

Taking care of your sun-kissed hair is very important to keep it looking fresh. When caring for your hair you want to be careful that your hair does not get too orange or brassy, especially if you are out in the sun frequently. Using a toning shampoo once a week will really help with keeping your hair bright and blonde. We also really recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep your hair soft and healthy. Going lighter with your hair can often be damaging to your ends, but that is nothing a little coconut oil and drinking lots of water can’t help.

COLOR SERIES: Ash Blonde- Mollie King, Cara Delevingne, Tyra Banks

Ash blonde hair has been seen on celebrities and supermodels across the globe recently. Some of our favorite celebrities, such as Cara Delevingne, Tyra Banks, and Mollie King, have rocked this look for years. The color has that natural pretty vibe to it, and we are going to show you exactly how to choose the perfect shade of ash blonde that will work for you.

Light Ash Blonde: Mollie King

The lightest ash blonde will often have tones of white, and if it is super light, it may even reflect tones of green or blue (very subtle-don’t worry!). Ladies with pale skin tones as well as ladies with rosy undertones to their skin will totally rock this look. If your hair naturally carries warm tones of blonde or red then going light ash blonde can be a process, but it can definitely be done. Keeping up with the proper care for your hair is what is going to keep you looking like a gorgeous ice queen. Be sure to use a shampoo and conditioner that will add shine to your hair, as well as toning with a purple shampoo. Our girl Mollie King pulls off light ash blonde like a star.

Medium Ash Blonde: Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne had the ultimate “model off-duty” look. Her gorgeous, natural looking hair color is a huge part of what makes her look come off so effortless. Medium ash blonde hair works on most skin tones, and because it still has some warm undertones in it, it can be a great option for people who have natural, brunette hair. Taking care of your medium ash blonde hair is super important, like any hair color, to the longevity of your color. Keeping your hair hydrated and silky smooth with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, along with a weekly tone of purple shampoo, will keep your hair from looking dull.

Dark Ash Blonde: Tyra Banks

Even ladies whose hair is naturally very dark brown or black can rock a shade in the ash blonde family. Our girl Tyra Banks has pulled off a variety of hair colors, but dark, ash blonde is definitely our favorite look on her. With the perfect balance of warm undertones, and her beautiful dark skin tone, this supermodel looks gorgeous even when she is off-duty. This color is a great option for ladies with dark hair who want to lighten up their look for the summer time. It is warm, summery, and a gorgeous option. Much like medium ash blonde, keeping your hair hydrated in order to not look dull is very important with this color.

Alcohol-Free for Hydrated, Healthy Hair: Gigi Hadid

Alcohol is an ingredient that is found in almost every beauty product. You probably didn’t know that any type of alcohol can actually cause heavy damage to your hair. We have compiled a list of go-to hair styling alcohol-free products that will help you prevent any hair damage this summer, as well as keep it hydrated and healthy. Who doesn’t want shiny & healthy hair like Gigi Hadid?

What does alcohol do to your hair?

The types of alcohol used in most hair products are known for being very drying and harmful to your hair. Alcohol is a very harsh chemical, and is not something that should be used when you are trying to treat your hair gently and with care. Alcohol in your hair products can cause dryness, dandruff, scalp rashes, and allergic reactions. The chemicals also strip your hair of its natural oils, which leaves your hair dry, brittle, and dull. Now, we don’t want any of that, do we ladies?

Alcohol-Free Products You Will Love!

There are tons of alcohol-free hair products out there. Drugstores carry great options if you are looking for an at-home styling option. A few great alcohol-free product lines are Carol’s Daughter, Garner Fructis, and Loreal. Each of these lines have specific alcohol-free products that will suit your preference, they range from shampoo and conditioners to firm-hold hairsprays.
There are also some salon quality ranges that are alcohol-free as well, if you are looking to have your hair done by a professional. These lines include Pureology, Biosilk, and Oscar Blandi.
Overloading your hair with products filled with alcohol will make it very difficult to keep your hair hydrated and healthy, especially with summer approaching. If you want to keep your hair healthy this summer we definitely recommend doing your research when you are buying new hair products. It will definitely be worth taking the extra time on research, not only will you not harm your hair, it will leave your hair looking healthy and shiny. Trust us- your hair will thank you. Cheers to a healthy, easy to manage hair for the summer time!
We hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any favorite alcohol-free products you love, then share it with us! Tweet us @jfrancisbeauty and tag us on Instagram @johnfrancisbeauty!

COLOR SERIES: Warm Blonde (Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, Amanda Seyfried)

Warm blonde is one of the most common shades across Hollywood all year round. Celebrities such as Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, and Amanda Seyfried wear their blonde locks beautifully and their stylists definitely know how to give a gal the perfect shade of warm blonde. From light, warm blonde to dark, warm blonde, every girl can give this go-to Hollywood look a try. Keep on reading for tips and tricks for everything warm blonde.

Picking the perfect shade:

Blonde can be tricky to pull off if you go for the wrong shade,so knowing your skin color and undertones is really helpful. Women with a medium skin tone tend to look best in a warm blonde shade. The warm undertones in their skin really glows with a warm-toned hair color. Blake Lively is the perfect example of a “glowing warm blonde”. Her hair is always the perfect shade for that skin tone, and it has such a natural warmth to it. Isn’t that what we all want, ladies? The secret to her effortless, beachy look is to have several different shades of perfectly blended warm tones with the slightest ombré towards the bottom of the hair. Kim Kardashian has been quite daring with her hair the past few years, and we personally loved her warm blonde, ombré look. Her medium, golden skin looked gorgeous with her ombré hair. The darker roots helped to break up the harshness of the look and add depth to her skin, and it really made her look like a glowing, summer goddess. Amanda Seyfried has actually rocked the same color for years now, and we still can’t get enough. Her solid, all-over warm blonde has become her signature color. Amanda is the perfect example of healthy, blonde hair. Whatever this gal does in her hair care routine needs to be shared now- we definitely approve!

Caring for Your Sunny Locks:

Caring for blonde hair is pretty much the same across the board. Keep your hair hydrated and nourished to get the most time out of your locks. Be sure to tone your hair once a week to keep that extra brassy color out of your hair (especially with a warm tone). Drink plenty of water and add a shine spray occasionally to really make that blonde color pop! What celebrity has your favorite blonde look? Let us know at Instagram @johnfrancisbeauty and

Blunt Haircuts for All Lengths

Thick, healthy hair is always in style, and we want to show you how to get the look. Whether you have hair down to your bum, or to your collarbone, you can definitely achieve this hot Spring look. It seems people are straying away from layers and are moving towards styles that are all one length, with tons of weight and volume at the ends of the hair. Want to give this look a go? Here is what you need to know to look absolutely FABULOUS!

The Short Bob

If you have hair that is anywhere from chin-length to above your collarbone, then you are most likely rocking a bob. Cutting your hair all one length, with no layers, creates a dramatic, yet very polished look that will totally turn heads. Your hair will look thick, healthy and super glamorous. Plus, this style looks awesome with a bit of texture added for a playful look. Our inspirations for this super trendy hairstyle are definitely Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Swift. These talented ladies can pull off this look casual or super glamorous (and so can you).

The Medium Length “Lob”

The “lob” is definitely hot in the hair world right now. This look consists of length anywhere from your collarbone to your shoulders, and it is actually very flattering on most women. Keeping this look one length or even a bit a-line is super trendy and easy to wear on a daily basis. With the weight at the bottom of the hair, this look is really easy to style and keep looking fresh, whether it is curled, straightened, or worn in your natural texture. We love the “lob” on Lucy Hale and Khloe Kardashian.

The Long, One Length “Do”

Keeping long hair looking healthy can be a challenge if you don’t have the right haircut. The easiest way to ensure a fresh-looking do is to chop your hair to one length, keeping weight and thickness at the bottom. Face-framing layers are great to add to break up the hair a bit, but with the majority of the hair kept to the same length, your hair will look super awesome. This hair cut is perfect for the girl who likes to braid her hair on throw it up in a top-knot because you don’t have to worry about little layers poking out of your “do.” Our go-to long, healthy hair inspiration is totally Olivia Palermo and Mila Kunis.
