Fall is here and winter is right around the corner, that means warm clothes, warm drinks, and warm hair. Yep, you heard right, warm hair. Warm toned hair is the perfect accessory for the upcoming colder months. Because you won’t be getting much sun during these seasons it’s important you maintain your glow in other ways. Warm toned hair is the perfect thing to keep your complexion looking bright, healthy, and anything but dull. Wondering what “warm toned” means for your hair color? Keep reading to find out.
If you’re a blonde and trying to go for a warm toned look it can be tricky. Warm toned blondes can often come off as too orange so you’ll want to go for more of a honey blonde. If you rock an ombre or balayage try asking your stylist to warm up your base color and add some gold to the lighter parts of your hair. This will add an overall glow to your hair keeping the tone consistent throughout.

If you’re a brunette seeking a warmer hair color for the season try adding some red to your do. I know it sounds intimidating but it’s really not as big of a commitment as it seems. Think of a mix between red and brown creating a rich mahogany. This hue will make any eye color pop and compliment every skin tone. Make sure you maintain this hair color regularly to keep it looking intense and fresh.

If you’re feeling daring or were just lucky enough to be born a natural redhead, embrace it this season. If you’re a blonde thinking of taking the plunge try a soft rose gold so the change isn’t so drastic at first. If you’re a brunette and want to fully embrace true red hair it is likely your stylist will have to lift your hair using a lightener first and lay a color over top. This look can be a little more high maintenance considering you’ll have to stay on top of your appointments so you don’t end up with dark roots. Although a little bit more effort needs to be put into this look, the outcome is stunning and totally worth it.

If you’re really feeling like stepping into the new year with a new look, I have one word for you…bangs. Bangs can totally transform your current style into a new one and give you an entirely new look. Now, don’t think you have to go full Bettie Paige, there are many different types of bangs so keep reading to see which is the best fit for you.
If you have curly hair you might have gone your whole life thinking you don’t have the right hair type for bangs. News flash…there is no right hair type for bangs. No matter what texture of your hair there is a fringe for you. Instead of trying to straighten your bangs, embrace your natural texture and wear them curly! Juno Temple has been rocking curly bangs in her new TV series which is set in the 70’s. We have talked previously about how in the revival of the 70’s is right now so this look is right on trend. Simply add some curl cream to your damp hair and blow dry with a diffuser for soft and defined curls.

Next lets talk about bangs where you don’t have to fully commit. If you’re not ready to make the drastic cut try these curtain bangs, pictured on Sienna Miller below. There is just enough bang to change your look but not too much where you can’t style your hair differently. This style of bang is extremely versatile and can be worn straight across or side swept. If you’re not feeling your bangs or don’t have time to style them you can easily push them to the side or pin them back.

Now it’s time for the real deal. I’m talking the straight across blunt bang. Not many people are brave enough to make the cut. These bangs typically need to be styled every day to keep them looking clean and fresh. It’s best to style these type of bangs with a round brush so you get a little volume and they aren’t sitting flat on your forehead. Dry shampoo is a must with this hairstyle, stash some in your bag for a quick way to freshen up on the go.

THE WET HAIR LOOK (LILY ALDRIDGE + ZENDAYA + TAVI GEVINSON)
Did you ever think leaving the house with wet hair would actually be on trend? Me either…but we’re in luck. Okay, so the hair in this look isn’t actually wet but it’s made to look like it is. This look that was featured on runways of designers like Prabal Gurung, Creatures of Comfort, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Coach, and Fenty Puma by Rihanna this past NY Fashion Week. This look is a cross between “just stepped out of the ocean Baywatch babe” and “got stuck in a rainstorm on my way to work chic.” Whichever look you are trying to embody, this style isn’t difficult to create and can add a very high fashion feel to your overall look. Lets talk about a few different ways to wear and create it.
If you want to go full out with this style and embrace the overall wet look let me tell you how. Start with hair fresh out of the shower or dampen your hair down with a spray bottle. This look is ideal for embracing your natural texture because no real styling goes into it. Grab a leave in cream product that’ll keep the hair looking wet while maintaining the softness of the hair. The key to is to keep this entire look from going crunchy or it can look very outdated. Run the product throughout the hair from roots to ends. Blow dry the hair on a low heat to seal in the texture and wet look. To finish apply a shine serum all over the hair to keep it looking fresh all day long.

If you aren’t sure about committing to all over wet look but still want to test out the trend try something a little less daring and only wet the top part of your hair. You can either leave the remainder of your hair down and in loose waves like the photo of Zendaya below. This still pulls all the hair away from the face in a very smooth way while keeping texture in the bottom part of the hair. It’s a perfect combination of classic and mature while still being soft and feminine.

Or pull the the rest of your hair back and into a glossy sleek bun or pony like Tavi Gevinson, also pictured below. It just depends on how slick and sophisticated you are wanting to go and how far you want to take this trend. If you decide to go all the way and wear your hair in a bun make sure it’s as tight as possible to maintain the clean look. Try putting your hair into a tight bun and using a tint brush to paint on the styling product. This technique slicks down all fly aways and gives great control of the product.

THE FLIP (KRISTEN STEWART + ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELY + TAYLOR HILL)
Revival is all the rage with trends nowadays so it’s only fair we take a page from the 80’s book. No, I don’t mean perms…thank goodness. I’m talking about the flip. The flip isn’t so much a haircut or style but just one motion that can transform your entire look. Tired of your dull middle part?
Instead
try parting your hair deeply to one side and teasing for a little volume at the crown. There are a few different versions of this look so let’s touch on them.
The voluminous flip is probably the most wearable for any hair type. This style combines textured hair and lots of volume. What keeps this look modern is that the volume is concentrated at the top of the head, this way it prevents the hair from looking outdated. No matter what texture your hair is you can enhance it using the designated product and pair it with this motion. If your hair is curly try a curl enhancing cream and apply on wet or damp hair so it doesn’t dry crunchy. Straighter hair can mimic texture with some sea salt spray and a diffuser. Regardless of your hair type, blow dry your har lifting it at the root to get that desired volume.

The smooth flip is a good option if you visit a salon weekly or often to get your hair styled. It’s basically a blow out with a deep side part and voluminous roots. Great if you are trying to look polished without looking matronly. This look will last you days so if you’re on the go just spray some dry shampoo at your roots and flip your head upside down working the dry shampoo in. Your locks will look like you just had a fresh blow out.

Last but certainly not least, the “Victorias Secret” flip. As the name suggests it is essentially that Victorias Secret Angel look that the girls rock on the runway. This look is so sought after because it’s soft, feminine, sexy, and voluminous all in one. It takes a little more effort and there a few more steps but it is worth it for the gorgeous result. First you’ll want to start wet hair and blow it out using a round brush and applying a volumizing mousse prior. Blow dry the hair up and out creating as much volume as possible. When removing the brush from the hair twist it to form a curl in the hair as it falls. After you do this all over your head take a 1-2 inch curling iron or wand, depending on the length of your hair, and create your waves. Wrap the hair loosely around the barrel and pull at the strand as it cools to relax the curl. After you complete your entire head of hair mist it with a light hold hairspray to hold the style while still keeping it bouncy and shiny.

ROMANTIC BRAIDS (EVA LONGORIA + EMILY RATAJKOWSKI + LUCY LIU)
Want to look perfectly undone for a night out or special event? We’ve got the perfect style for you, romantic braids. This style adds a touch of romance and makes any look more feminine. Whether you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt for a casual date night out or pairing it with an evening gown for a more formal event this look compliments all occasions. This look is a more modern take on the traditional slicked back classic braid. An advantage to wearing this style is that it will take much less time than the traditional version. These braids work best on dirty hair for added texture. So, it is the perfect option if you are going out and just don’t have time to wash and style your hair. Just washed your hair but still want to achieve this look? No worries, grab your favorite sea salt or texture spray and some dry shampoo. As well as absorbing the excess oil in your hair the dry shampoo will add some grittiness and volume at your roots. While the texture spray pieces up your mid lengths and ends to give the braid some grip.
In the photo above Eva Longoria showcases the perfect messy braid. With a deep side part, tons of volume, and pulled out pieces it compliments her subtle gown beautifully. Eva made her braid even more interesting by choosing the fish tail braid. Fish tail braids are made up of two overlapping sections of hair rather than three like the classic.
In the photo below Emily Ratajkowski is a perfect example of how the classic braid can be made modern. The braid is gathered at the nape of her neck and pulled apart. While the majority of her hair that frames her face is flowing freely to add some movement. This is a great option for someone who wants to wear their hair in some sort of an updo but prefers to not have all their hair pulled away from their face.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you want to have your hair completely off your face that’s an option as well. In the photo above of Lucy Liu she starts her braid at the top of her head and it cascades around. Perfect if you have old bangs that are growing out and want to keep them out of your face.
EXTREME EXTENSIONS (NAOMI CAMPBELL + JOURDAN DUNN + JENNIFER LOPEZ)
In our last blog post we talked about short cuts, this post is all about extreme length. Hair extensions have become increasingly popular over the years and the advance in technology has made them look more realistic than ever. Lately celebrities have been spotted at events, on runways and red carpets alike wearing “Cher Hair.” Meaning straight sleek extremely long locks parted right down the middle. Cher made this look iconic in the 70’s and like a lot of looks from that time period, it’s been revived in 2017.
Celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, and Jennifer Lopez have been pulling off this extreme style just like Cher did. The best thing about this style is that anyone can achieve it regardless of their hair length thanks to hair extensions.

There are many different varieties of extensions able to suit everyones needs. If you’re only wearing this look for a night out or special occasion, maybe a Halloween costume, try clip in extensions. These types of extensions grip onto your hair with a comb-like clip and come in a variety of widths and lengths. They can be easily removed at the end of the night which makes them perfect for one day wear.

If you’re looking for some long term length there are a couple options for you. The first being a type of extension called micro bead extensions These are thinner bunches of hair that are placed very close to the root and secured with a micro bead shaped like a small ring. The ring is placed around the extension and your hair and clamped down flat to hold the extension and your natural hair together. As your hair grows out these extensions have to be removed, moved up, and reapplied so the beads don’t become visible. Another type of extension intended for long term wear are tape in extensions. As the name suggests these extensions are attached using a hair safe adhesive. Usually, two extensions are placed on top of one another with the natural hair sandwiched in between. As with micro bead extensions, you’ll also need to readjust tape in extensions with hair growth. Both options do the job, it all depends on personal preference so try both out to see which works best for you.

THE REVISED BOB (JANUARY JONES + CIARA + DAKOTA JOHNSON)
Last time we talked we spoke about the Blunt Bob, a big hair trend in 2017. What’s possibly an even bigger trend this year? The modern bob, or better known as the long bob- the lob. As the name suggests, this cut is the longer version of the classic bob. Typically this cut hits right at the shoulders or below with little to no layers. It’s universally flattering and not really a traditional “short haircut” which makes it super versatile. Because it’s not very short you are still able to pull your hair out of your face into a ponytail or bun. Since there are little or no layers you’ll have a clean looking pony or bun with no pieces sticking out. If your hair is feeling heavy or like it’s too thick with the shorter cut, you can always opt for layers in your lob and make it choppier.

While we’ve been talking about cuts so much let’s get into color for a minute. A lob works with virtually any hair color. If your hair is a singular color and you’re feeling like your hair is looking a little bland without layers try adding some light. Highlights or a balayage are the way to go. This adds movement and texture to the hair breaking it up and making it look more interesting and on trend. If you do opt for some layers highlights can really accentuate them and bring the whole style together. Adding lightness to the hair makes it look less graphic so it really depends what kind of look you’re going for.

As with the previously talked about classic bob, any hair texture will work with this cut. If you have curly or wavy hair stay away from too many layers as it can make the cut look out of control and unruly. The goal with this cut is to make it look effortless and chic so less is more.

THE BLUNT BOB (RIHANNA + JAIME KING + RITA ORA)
Let’s talk cuts! The bob has been a popular haircut since flappers in the 1920’s started sporting it. The 20’s bob was much shorter than the modern day cut we see everyone wearing today. In the 1920’s it was often worn often worn with a side-parting, curled or waved, and with the hair at the nape of the neck Fast forward to the 60’s where Vidal Sassoon simplified the cut and it became popular again and has been ever since. Editor- in- chief of Vogue Anna Wintour has had a bob since 1988 and in 1994 Uma Thurman’s character Mia Wallace made it an iconic cut in the cult classic Pulp Fiction. Since then the bob has continued to evolve while staying present in trends throughout the years.
In 2017 it’s all about being blunt…with your hair of course! The newest and most on trend way to wear a bob current day is cut sharp and angular. The cut should be very precise and exact. Keep it old school and wear this cut like the flappers did in the 20’s. In this photo above of Rita Ora she has her bob cut a little higher than chin length and has it parted to the side. This is great for fine or thin hair as it creates the appearance of volume and makes the hair look fuller. This style could be worn with straight or curly hair and would compliment both textures.
