Color Series: SILVER

Silver hair has been a major trend so far in 2016. This extremely cool-toned color has been seen in magazines, celebrities, and basically all over the internet, and has been dubbed the hot color of the moment. The color seems to have got its start after people were tired of their hair becoming brassy and yellow when they had it dyed blonde. With silver hair, the hair is practically white, and shows no sign of brassiness or yellow. The maintenance of silver hair can be very intense, but we have some great tips for you on how to pull off this look.

Committing to the Color

Going silver is definitely a big commitment. It takes a bold soul to pull off silver hair, especially since prior to the emergence of the trend of silver hair, it seemed to be only reserved for the elderly. Rocking silver hair is a brave move, but we know your can do it. Once you are mentally committed to the silver hair trend, you must learn the actual up-keep it takes to keep your locks looking soft, shiny, and silver. Depending on what color your hair started out as before going silver will determine how long and difficult it will be to get your hair to that perfect shade of silver. Let’s just say, you might be having several, long trips to the salon, but it will be worth it.

Maintaining Your Color

Silver hair requires lots of maintenance, but if you have the time and energy it will be no big deal. Keeping your hair out of the brassy, yellow zone will be your biggest challenge. We definitely suggest buying a purple, toning shampoo to help keep your color looking awesome. You can find purple, toning shampoo at any beauty supply store or online, and it definitely will be worth adding one more product into your beauty routine. We also recommend limiting the amount of time you take to wash your hair and make sure to keep your hair very hydrated. Also, drink lots of water and treat your hair with coconut oil treatment once a week.
We have a feeling this trend will be around for a while, so if you have been wanting to try it out, just go for it. Silver hair is definitely the “cool girl” look of the moment, and we are huge fans. Alcohol-Free for Hydrated, Healthy Hair: Gigi Hadid

Alcohol is an ingredient that is found in almost every beauty product. You probably didn’t know that any type of alcohol can actually cause heavy damage to your hair. We have compiled a list of go-to hair styling alcohol-free products that will help you prevent any hair damage this summer, as well as keep it hydrated and healthy. Who doesn’t want shiny & healthy hair like Gigi Hadid?

What does alcohol do to your hair?

The types of alcohol used in most hair products are known for being very drying and harmful to your hair. Alcohol is a very harsh chemical, and is not something that should be used when you are trying to treat your hair gently and with care. Alcohol in your hair products can cause dryness, dandruff, scalp rashes, and allergic reactions. The chemicals also strip your hair of its natural oils, which leaves your hair dry, brittle, and dull. Now, we don’t want any of that, do we ladies?

Alcohol-Free Products You Will Love!

There are tons of alcohol-free hair products out there. Drugstores carry great options if you are looking for an at-home styling option. A few great alcohol-free product lines are Carol’s Daughter, Garner Fructis, and Loreal. Each of these lines have specific alcohol-free products that will suit your preference, they range from shampoo and conditioners to firm-hold hairsprays.
There are also some salon quality ranges that are alcohol-free as well, if you are looking to have your hair done by a professional. These lines include Pureology, Biosilk, and Oscar Blandi.
Overloading your hair with products filled with alcohol will make it very difficult to keep your hair hydrated and healthy, especially with summer approaching. If you want to keep your hair healthy this summer we definitely recommend doing your research when you are buying new hair products. It will definitely be worth taking the extra time on research, not only will you not harm your hair, it will leave your hair looking healthy and shiny. Trust us- your hair will thank you. Cheers to a healthy, easy to manage hair for the summer time!
We hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any favorite alcohol-free products you love, then share it with us! Tweet us @jfrancisbeauty and tag us on Instagram @johnfrancisbeauty!

Hydrated, Gorgeous Hair Like Selena Gomez

Summer is approaching, which means nothing but sun, sand, and saltwater. Taking care of your hair in the warmer months is essential to being able to have silky, hydrated hair in the cooler months of the year just like Selena Gomez. We know you love a good beach day lounging in the sun and cooling off in the ocean, so here are some ways to take care of your locks while having fun in the sun and salt this summer!

First step to hydrated, summer hair like Selena is to get rid of the alcohol. Now, before you freak out- NO we do not mean the type your drink. Feel free to have that margarita on the beach girl. We are talking about the drying, chemical filled alcohol that is in so many hair products. Alcohol can be extremely damaging to your hair, especially in the summer months when your hair is usually a bit more dry from the sun and saltwater. Alcohol-free products are not actually that hard to find, and you hair will thank you for using them. Don’t worry, we will show you exactly which products to use in our next post. Stay tuned!

2. Rinse out that Salt (+ Chlorine)

Who hasn’t spent the entire day at the beach or the pool and waited until they got home to wash their hair. Everybody, right?! Well, taking an extra few minutes before your leave the water location you were in can really save your hair from extra damage. Both saltwater and chlorine are extremely drying to your hair and the longer they sit in your hair, the more damage they can cause. The next time you leave the beach or the pool try rinsing your hair out with bottled water. The minerals from the bottled water will help re-hydrate your hair so the next time you wash and blow-dry your hair, it will look healthy, sexy, and soft- just like our girl Selena.

3. Hydrate that Hair

During the summer it is important that you hydrate your hair inside and out. Be sure to drink TONS of water, especially if you are going to be in the sun all day. Another great way to hydrate your hair after putting it through hours in the sun is to have a girl’s night, put on some face masks, and soak your hair in coconut oil. Leave the coconut oil on as long as you can (you can even wear it overnight), give your hair a nice wash, and trust us- you will feel a difference in your hair.
We hope you enjoyed this post. We have lots of fun summer hair tips coming soon, so be sure to check back soon and follow us on our social media outlets.

COLOR SERIES: Warm Blonde (Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, Amanda Seyfried)

Warm blonde is one of the most common shades across Hollywood all year round. Celebrities such as Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, and Amanda Seyfried wear their blonde locks beautifully and their stylists definitely know how to give a gal the perfect shade of warm blonde. From light, warm blonde to dark, warm blonde, every girl can give this go-to Hollywood look a try. Keep on reading for tips and tricks for everything warm blonde.

Picking the perfect shade:

Blonde can be tricky to pull off if you go for the wrong shade,so knowing your skin color and undertones is really helpful. Women with a medium skin tone tend to look best in a warm blonde shade. The warm undertones in their skin really glows with a warm-toned hair color. Blake Lively is the perfect example of a “glowing warm blonde”. Her hair is always the perfect shade for that skin tone, and it has such a natural warmth to it. Isn’t that what we all want, ladies? The secret to her effortless, beachy look is to have several different shades of perfectly blended warm tones with the slightest ombré towards the bottom of the hair. Kim Kardashian has been quite daring with her hair the past few years, and we personally loved her warm blonde, ombré look. Her medium, golden skin looked gorgeous with her ombré hair. The darker roots helped to break up the harshness of the look and add depth to her skin, and it really made her look like a glowing, summer goddess. Amanda Seyfried has actually rocked the same color for years now, and we still can’t get enough. Her solid, all-over warm blonde has become her signature color. Amanda is the perfect example of healthy, blonde hair. Whatever this gal does in her hair care routine needs to be shared now- we definitely approve!

Caring for Your Sunny Locks:

Caring for blonde hair is pretty much the same across the board. Keep your hair hydrated and nourished to get the most time out of your locks. Be sure to tone your hair once a week to keep that extra brassy color out of your hair (especially with a warm tone). Drink plenty of water and add a shine spray occasionally to really make that blonde color pop! What celebrity has your favorite blonde look? Let us know at Instagram @johnfrancisbeauty and

Celebrity Spotlight: Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens is a chameleon when it comes to hair. This girl can rock any look from a super short “boy” cut to her long, natural waves. Talk about variety. We picked three of our favorite looks that this festival princess has sported in the past few years, and we are going to tell you how to rock these looks just like Vanessa.

2008: Tousled, Lose Waves

When Vanessa Hudgens stepped on the scene in Disney’s High School Musical, she looked sweet, innocent, and pretty in her tousled, glossy waves. This look is achievable for practically all hair lengths. Using a curling iron without the clamp, or a wand curling iron, take small sections of your hair, varying in width, and wrap them around the curling iron. Hold for a few seconds, leaving just the ends not touching the iron, and you will have natural looking, tousled waves just like Vanessa in her High School Musical days. Add a bit of shine hair spray to finish the look, and you are ready. This is a beautiful hairstyle for everyday wear or even for a fancy night on the town.

2011: Short, “Boy” Cut

When Vanessa landed a role as a homeless teen in the film Gimme Shelter, she cut her long strands and went for a short cut to suit the role. This bold look is one that takes some bravery to take the plunge, but it is so elegant and beautiful. Vanessa rocks this look with a bit of texture, and you can too. Adding a bit of texturing mouse after you have washed your hair and drying your hair with a diffuser will help you achieve this sassy, bold look. Confidence is key with this hairstyle, so rock it ladies!

2016: Long, Wild Curls

It is no secret that Vanessa is “Queen of Coachella” because of her amazing festival outfits, but her hair is a huge part of what make her looks so incredible. This boho babe is not afraid to wear her hair free in its natural texture. We love Vanessa’s wild waves and we think you should give your natural texture a try too. You may end up loving it. The key to rocking your natural texture is keeping your locks hydrated and healthy. Give your hair a coconut oil bath and a regular trim and you will be looking fresh on the daily.
What is your favorite look of Vanessa’s? We love her and we want to hear what you think. Tag us on Instagram @johnfrancisbeauty and tweet us on Twitter @jfrancisbeauty!
