Last time we talked we spoke about the Blunt Bob, a big hair trend in 2017. What’s possibly an even bigger trend this year? The modern bob, or better known as the long bob- the lob. As the name suggests, this cut is the longer version of the classic bob. Typically this cut hits right at the shoulders or below with little to no layers. It’s universally flattering and not really a traditional “short haircut” which makes it super versatile. Because it’s not very short you are still able to pull your hair out of your face into a ponytail or bun. Since there are little or no layers you’ll have a clean looking pony or bun with no pieces sticking out. If your hair is feeling heavy or like it’s too thick with the shorter cut, you can always opt for layers in your lob and make it choppier.

While we’ve been talking about cuts so much let’s get into color for a minute. A lob works with virtually any hair color. If your hair is a singular color and you’re feeling like your hair is looking a little bland without layers try adding some light. Highlights or a balayage are the way to go. This adds movement and texture to the hair breaking it up and making it look more interesting and on trend. If you do opt for some layers highlights can really accentuate them and bring the whole style together. Adding lightness to the hair makes it look less graphic so it really depends what kind of look you’re going for.

As with the previously talked about classic bob, any hair texture will work with this cut. If you have curly or wavy hair stay away from too many layers as it can make the cut look out of control and unruly. The goal with this cut is to make it look effortless and chic so less is more.

When you get your hair done, does your hair stylist cut your hair wet or dry? The most common answer now a days is wet. However, dry hair cutting is a revolutionary way of cutting hair! The technique was coined by John Sahag, who was known as the first internationally-recognized freelance hairstylist. He performed his hair magic on celebrities from Gweneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt to Jennifer Anniston and Mick Jagger! Sahag is famous for giving Demi Moore her signature “boy cut” in the film “The Ghost”.
Dry cutting the hair involves cutting the hair in a series of layers before washing and coloring, to ensure a precise and even cut. It allows both the hair stylist and the client to see that shape of the hair as it forms through the cut, rather than waiting for the big reveal after the wash and blow dry! If you have ever experience a drastic change at the salon, you can imagine that this might be a good way to go.
When you hair is wet, it does not show its true length or volume, so cutting dry really gives your hair the benefit of the doubt. Your stylist is able to see every cowlick, curl, wave, and uneven length you have going on. When you hair is wet, it is almost impossible to see all of those imperfections.

He has been praised for his dry-cutting techniques and has been lovingly compared to Sahag over and over again. John Francis travels from celebrity client to client performing his dry-cutting, hair magic, just like Sahag once did! It is uncommon to find a hair stylist who cuts hair dry, but the advantages of cutting hair dry in comparison to wet are huge! Loose-Ends Bun
The topknot has been a staple hair style for years now, but we are adding a small twist! Keeping the ends of your bun loose gives a fun, fresh vibe to the classic topknot! Step #1: Determine your length based on your face shape
Choosing the most flattering length for you is highly based on your face shape! You can easily determine your face shape based on the photos included below, and after you have done that, you are open to world of possibilities when it comes to hairstyles! A few examples of flattering lengths for each face shape are as follows:
Oval: For a short cut, try out a short, angular bob with chin-length layers like Keira Knightley. On the long side, go for a sleek, shoulder-length blowout like Ashley Greene!
Round: For a short cut, go for some spiky layers like Ginnifer Goodwin! If long hair is more your speed, go for long layers that hit around your jaw-line like Selena Gomez.
Square: Try out a short, layered bob with subtle bangs for a short cut like Cameron Diaz! For a longer style, try out collarbone-length hair with longer bangs to the cheekbone Jessica Simpson.

This will achieve more balance between your dramatic cheekbones and more delicate chin line.
Fringe options: Bangs (fringe) that sweep to one side
AVOID: The good news is you can do just about everything, but try not to wear too much hair on your face because you don`t want to hide your great features! I also suggest you avoid really short styles, a part in the center and styles that add fullness at your cheeks.

Do you have long, thick, curly hair?
Ask your hairdresser to cut it so the curls are looser and to take out the thickness. Then sweep the top part back for a soft, flirty, sexy look. Want to get rid of your curls? Chop them out with a short, messy crop.
Fine Hair?
If you’d like your hair long ask your stylist for soft layers. This is the best way to add volume and sex appeal. If you want to go super short, you’re in luck. Your hair texture and face shape is ideal to carry off one of my favorite styles. A short, messy style is ideal.
Medium-textures hair?
Try, a fair amount of layers to keep it soft with a bit of edginess! Think modern.
Fringe options: Always keep soft looking and not too blunt or hard, as that look can age you, as well as, give you a hard look.
Color you sexy: Ask your stylist about low lighting the hair around your face to elongate your oval shape.
AVOID: Heavy bangs. It may appear to add weight to your face.

Do you have fine hair?
A long straight cut with root lift is absolutely perfect and flattering for a wide jaw.
Do you have curly hair?
If you have curly hair, coax soft, sexy, textured layers around your face to soften your strong features.
Fringe options: Most hair types, except curly will be able to take a fringe that touches the eyebrows and which is longer and layered at the sides. However, if your hair is thick or frizzy layer the fringe throughout to thin it out.
Color you sexy: Lightening hair all around the face will soften a square face. AVOID: As a rule of thumb avoid long straight styles that accentuate the jaw. Straight bangs, center parts and really short cuts are also to be avoided.
OVERALL: Make sure in styling that you achieve some roundness to the shape and some height at the crown or bangs and you will be on the right track.

What is the perfect hairstyle of a Round Shaped Face? The secret to accentuating a round face is to create the illusion of length!
Do you have medium to long curly hair?
Ask your stylist for choppy layers through the back and bottom of your hair to give it some shape and sex appeal.
Do you have Straight hair?
The golden rule to remember is that round faces need a style that has longer layers that fall into place and frame your face.
The goal is to lengthen your cheeks making them look slimmer and your cheekbones more structured.
Try a modern bob cut with layers that fall softly on to the face.
Fringe options: Long wispy fringe will look great for a round face. If your hair is thicker, a longer fringe that you can sweep to the side will lengthen your face.
Color you sexy: Low lights at the side of the face and lighter highlights at the top of the head will create the illusion of lustrous length.
AVOID:
Chin length hair with a rounded line that mirrors face’s circular shape.
Center parts.
Short-short cropped bangs.
Fullness at side of ears.
A rounded haircut ending at the chin will add weight to your face shape, because the widest part of your face is at the cheeks and ears. It will make your face appear wider.
Whether your hair is long or short, if it’s prone to a wave or curl, avoid at all costs ending up with a rounded ‘bubble cut’.

What is the perfect hairstyle for a Long Shaped Face?
Breathe a sigh of relief: you are certainly not short on style options.
Do you have long, fine hair?
Go shorter so your hair looks thicker and your face looks wider. A cut that is unstructured can be worn messy or edgy, which is a time saver.
If you like a more groomed sophisticated look a one-length modern cut with layers will give you that edge of sleek glam.
Is your hair thick, coarse and curly?
Lucky you! Your hair is a playground and the results can only be positive.
Fringe options:
Unfortunately in the fringe area it’s not a case of anything goes for you.
Disguise a long forehead with a thick blunt, cut. You’ll be surprised how feminine it makes you look.
Steer clear of a fringe if you have a small forehead – it will just emphasize the length of the rest of your face.
COLOR: A trick to make your face appear shorter and wider is to add highlights at the sides.
AVOID: Too much hair length around the face area or height will lengthen your face. My overall suggestion is keep the length above the shoulders. When your hair gets past your shoulders there is a good chance it will do you more harm than good.
